Demand for sustainability

The problem that fish stocks are declining worldwide, and the realisation that it is particularly the small coastal fishermen who suffer since there are no longer sufficient fish close to the coast, motivated us to become active.

We demand:

  • Binding international regulation, including for international waters
  • Requirement to bring the entire catch to shore – no dumping (including of the by-catch) on the high sea
  • Establishment of protected areas sufficient for spawning (marine protected areas)
  • Prohibition of fishing the margins to these protected reserves
  • Put a stop to illegal pirate fishing (IUU) and trade in goods of unknown origin
  • Strict observance of scientifically determined catch quotas
  • Quotas to be allocated taking coastal fishing into account
  • Introduction of a uniform European Logo for fish backed by minimum standards for sustainability
